Venezia Lines is a high-speed passenger ferry operator linking the North Adriatic coast of Italy with numerous locations on the northwest coast of Croatia, and Piran in Slovenia.

As their name suggests, Venezia Lines sails primarily from the Italian port of Venice, while services have, in the past, run from Rimini and Bari. Operating their first trip in 2003, Venezia Lines is now a leading company in the Adriatic Sea thanks to the backing of Virtu Ferries; they have since carried over a million passengers between Venice and the northern coasts of Croatia and Slovenia.

Running from April to October, Venezia Lines can carry around 300 passengers per trip, and with crossing durations of between 2 ½ and 4 hours, depending on the route, they are by far the fastest carrier linking the North Adriatic's ports, averaging a speed of about 35 knots. The 2 ships are air-cushion vessels called San Frangisk and San Pawl, combining all the advantages of hover crafts and catamarans, resulting in higher speeds, lower fuel consumption, less wave-making and higher manoeuvrability owing to the significant reduction of water resistance.

  • "Lack of transparency "

    Back now at our original port having sailed from rovinj to Venice, and staying in Venice overnight. When purchasing the tickets we were under the impression that the service was direct. There was no mention of a detour to pula which was at least 90 minutes out of our way. Direct ferries should have made this very clear on their site. To add to this, the boat was held up across the Adriatic Sea as the pilot essentially went round some choppy waters. It was only when we were nearly arriving into Venice were we told how late we were running and the reason why. Real time (or closer to real time) updates are appreciated in 2019. We left rovinj on time at 6.15am and left the boat in Venice at 12noon.... We returned to rovinj the next day nearly an hour late, but with no apology or explanation as to why. Again in 2019 there's no excuse for lack of updates. The boat was clean, spacious and the staff (aside from the lack of updates) were good but there was no apathy towards their customers, who like me presumably purchased tickets which were very expensive.

  • "It’s a long trip but is it worth it?"

    The reality is if you are heading for a day trip from Pula to Venice be prepared to spend over eight hours enclosed in a catamaran. But if you don’t mind that you do get to spend five hours in Venice. I went it alone and managed in that five hours to do a complete circuit of the canal by vaporetto, stopped off at the Rialto Bridge for a very pleasant three course lunch for a set price of 21€ they hopped back on to the water bus down to walk through St Mark’s Square, no time for much else other than to by the inevitable Venetian etching from a roadside artist, then back onto the bus to return to the ferry. Fortunately I chose a day when the sea was smooth and better still I was in VIP which if I was to do the trip again would be the only way I would travel. The staff were all courteous and helpful. Only problem, no loo paper in VIP loo hence marking down.

    Take the water route from Rovinj to Venice. Much better than train (save over 7 hrs) and airplane (far less money), plus you get to approach Venice from the open sea.

  • "Not many places are worth 7 hours travelling on a single day, but Venice is the exception."

    The vessel was clean and comfortable and on time, so what more could you want. The staff were very informative and courteous. The male member of staff who spoke and gave information about Venice was very good, and funny, and certainly made me re-think my plan for the day. Obviously, they want customers to book their trips but it worked in my family’s favour that we did. I think the taxi back to the ship (allowing you to see the sights of the Grand Canal) is a no brainer. Everything was very well organised and I would certainly use their services again.
